I have seen them without repeating, ones made with two of each and the game is to find the pairs.
Others like shown here with the blocks repeated randomly or in a pattern.
The rule is do what you want and have fun while doing it :D:D:D

This is the definition from About.com
"An I Spy Quilt is made from fussy-cut fabrics, usually children's prints or other types of novelty fabrics with motifs that depict objects the child can "spy" when looking at the quilt. I Spy Quilts are typically made from squares, since they are easy to fussy cut, but you'll also find quilts made with other patchwork shapes."

Nice discussion at this site: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-100925-1.htm

Right now I am trying to get all my squares laid out and it is taking a while. Cutting some new ones as I go as I decided some were too big. Basic size is 3 1/2 inches so have a few that I doubled and quadrupled. My hubby says I have to hurry as it is almost 6 PM here.
