Thanks to all you New England quilters chatting about Mardens. I picked up my DH at the PWM airport Tuesday evening and went to the South Portland Mardens. WOW !! their selection of quilting fabrics is really great. No batiks -- tho I didn't have a lot of time to wander around. I have to be down in Portland again next week and I will really look around. It is an hour and a half drive so I don't go casually.

The fabrics all seemed to be 4.99 to 6.99 -- really good prices. BTW -- I was in Walmart last week to get a small piece of fabric to finish a project -- the clerk told me where the Mardens was -- she always shops there for fabrics because of the wide selection.

I'm so glad you love Marden's. I've only been to the store in Sanford, but I hear that they all stock different lines. I've seen lots of batiks in Sanford. I hope to get to the Biddeford store soon.

Sorry you didn't find the Batik's. They had some the other day when I was there. The Sanford Marden's has quiet a lot of Batik. I just love going there and finding a bargin. I've purchased fabric there for $3.99 a yard and seen the exact fabric in the LQS selling for twice as much.

give yourself some extra time & check out the linen dept. at the Goodwill up the road - I've found fabric there tucked among the sheets.

Glad you liked it - Mardens is hit or miss but I do so love it. They have raised their prices gradually in the last year. When I started going there - they were 3.99 to 5.99. But even at the new prices - compared to LAQS still a bargain!!
