Default I won a raffle quilt. Would everyone hate me if I sold it?

After many years of purchasing quilt raffle tickets to support quilt guilds and other organizations, I finally won a raffle quilt made by a local quilt guild. It is lovely and beautifully made but I really have no use for it. It is enormous and the colors don't match anything in my house. I have been quilting for more than 40 years and already have quilts everywhere in my home.
It is very heavy. My husband and I are seniors and I have medical problems that sometimes make it hard for me to get in and out of bed. Should I sleep under this quilt I would have difficulty rolling over.

I will attempt to photograph it and post the photo.

My question is would it be "bad" of me to sell it?

I already asked my friend who is a member of the guild that made it if her friends, several of who I have met, would be mad at me if I sold it? She said they would be disappointed. She also said that when they drew my name she told them I probably wouldn't keep it. I know that she worked on the quilt and did some of the applique. It is machine quilted by a local longarmer who also does beautiful work.

I am thinking of asking at least $600. I would appreciate your oponions.

Sounds like you are sort of caught "between the rock and the hard place". Do you maybe have family members that you could pass it on to?

You won that quilt and now it is yours. You are free to do with it as you want. The person that buys this quilt will love it and cherish it.

I think you have a valid reason (the heavy weight) to say that, while it is beautiful and you are delighted that you won it, it turns out that you cannot put it to its intentioned use. If anyone is critical if you decide to sell the quilt, tell them it is too nice and too well done to put it away and that you would prefer it to be owned by someone who will display it and use it.

I agree! The quilt is yours to do with what you wish.

You won the quilt and therefore it is yours to do with as you wish - to use it, give it away, sell it, use it for a doggy bed. The people who made it specifically for raffling, shouldn't judge what the winner does with it. My feeling is that if I donate a piece I've put a bit of me in, I give it unreservedly and just hope that it goes to a good home and is welcomed wherever it may land. That being said, there are times when we all do or not do things for the sake of maintaining friendships.

Sell it, and don't tell anyone how much you sold it for. It would never be enough to satisfy the guild group, and they don't need that information (which would upset them, no matter how many dollars it was).

Congratulations on winning the quilt and the opportunity to get some income from it!

It's yours, do as you please.

    Good luck with the sale!

I agree, its your and do what you want with it. If you can't sell it would you consider donating to a charitable organization who could raffle it off for a fundraiser. Or, you could donate to a domestic violence shelter or women's shelter who could use use to keep the women they shelter warm in the winter. Let us know your decision.

Default I think these are pictures of the raffle quilt I won.

My bedroom is small and you can see that the quilt and the bed take up a lot of room. Not only does the quilt come all the way to the floor the corners puddle and get in the way of walking around the bed. The piecing and applique are beautiful but not my colors.
