Here's my first thought. It's a rectangle image but would/could be trimmed/bound to an oval shape.
You didn't mention the dimensions of your table.
Here's a wide runner - 48 DP blocks, 24"x40". Also, the type of DP block determines the pattern. These have the curved piece going edge to edge to get the serpentine look - which I've always really liked.
Also, any log cabin setting would work, regardless of the type of DP you're making. Half light, half dark is all you need. As long as you keep the values within each group tight, the more fabrics the better! ;-)
