Default Ideas for cross stitched squares quilt assembly...

I am putting some square together for a friend and need fabric to set the squares. I can see using a white muslin...the same as the squares but can't find it. Thought Joanne's would be the place to find it. Saw Kona cotton online that was backing but afraid it might be quite a bit heavier...anyone have any experience with this?

I did a quilt using cross stitched tea towels. and hankies. I backed them with the least expensive cotton I could find. I think it was about 2.99 yard at Hancock. Used coupon too.

I used a Kona to replace a batik I ran out of. I thought the same thing, that it might be much heavier. In reality it was a little bit heavier, but not enough to make any noticable difference.

I like Southern Belle Bleached muslin for this. Many LQSs carry it and it's also easily found online.

I've been trying to find it online in a wide/backing width...does it come that way.
