In a comfort quilt book I read, and I have made these, you take 2-12 inch squares. fold one diagonally and stitch the two raw open edges to the flat square. Make as many as you want the quilt to size to, then sew all the squares together. Walla, you have deep pockets in each square for a kleenex etc. They are quick and very nice. Good luck.

Warm wishes would be my vote. I love the way the focus fabric looks framed. It can be strip pieced. Quick and oh, so beautiful. You've probably already made your decision. Have fun!

Kaye Woods has a book called 6 hour quilts. Google it and just by looking at the picture you could get the idea for at least one. It doesn't cut the fabric up into little pieces so would showcase the fabric nicely.

A four patch, then a full 6" block, then a four patch, 6", etc...Alternate each row. Did that make any sense? Kid size (probably close to lap size) is five blocks across, six down.

How about a snowball block and then a 9 patch? You could make the snowball any size you want, then make up the 9 patch to the same size.

My neice loves horses as well and I am working on one for her. I had the same concern and I finally decided to make a rag quilt and let the pattern transition through the rag so it kind of looks like a continuous flow. Well except for the fuzzy part of course. :) Good luck!

Snowball block can feature the horses in it and you can basically make it the size you want.

BQ is my suggestion also. D9Patch would really go fast with 6 1/2 squares of horses. this is FAST !

I think the disappearing nine patch would be good. Place the solid colours in the centre squares and the horse fabric in the other squares and it will go together quickly, yet look difficult and interesting.The squares could be any size that you wish.
