You can make them as large as you want and you can make the different sizes also. You can do whatever you want. Say you make the middle block 10x10 then the other blocks can be 5x10, so that the middle block is really being shown off. you can really have fun with it.

I agree....this quilt is easy and very cute. It would be great to show case that horse fabric.

Does your fabric have enough repeats to make something like a four patch posey design?

I agree with this one too, plus you can quilt the backing as you go

Anyway, I have some materials with horses already and need a fast pattern for a lap quilt that would use larger sized squares so I am not cutting apart all the horses...

My question is, how big of square can I do a nine-patch, you know, before it looks weird? Or can you suggest another block/idea for using the horses??

Need to get it done this weekend....yeeeks!!! :| Helllllpppp...
How about a star block with the horse print in the center?

What about the 10 minute block. That one uses large blocks and seems like it would be quick and easy to do. I haven't had time to try it yet but plan to after Christmas.

I am making quilts for 4 children who have been taken in by their grandmother because their parents are addicts. The grandmother does not have legal custody of the children so she can't get any assistance for them. One of the children likes horses and I also found fabric with large squares with horses in them. I made 9 patch blocks from 5 " squares of light and dark blue for alternating squares. The horse fabric had a border of horses and I used this at the top and bottom of the quilt. It turned out really well. I am knotting that quilt now and will post pictures when I have the 4 quilts completed.
