Last winter my friends and I made a signature block quilt. I used the pattern I found here. http://www.bethanyreynolds.com/Kidsquilt/Kidsquilt.html
We laid it out differently (Because we wound up with 108 signed blocks!) I drew the 6" (finished size) block onto a 7" square of freezer paper. I ironed the white fabric to the center position and several of us got together to paper piece various fabric triangles to the two corners. We trimmed the blocks and left the paper on until the blocks were signed. The quilt was a huge success. I wll attempt to post the pictures of the quilt (both back and front)

Hey Susanne would the 10 min block work? If you make the center fabric almost twice as big as the other 4 you can square up the block & the points will match. With the cathedral curl you would then have circles framed with the diamonds that you could then quilt rings in between the center blocks.( Using gold thread to represent wedding rings.) Clear as mud?

I made a quilt for my parents several years ago for their 50th. My Mom found some left over fabric from the Brides maid dresses and I used that to make the a wall quilt. It was hard to find other material to go with the vintage stuff but it turned out great. She just found some left over fabric from her wedding dress and gave it to me. I have 4 years to come up with something for their 60th.

I go with the idea of the memory quilt as well, we recently put one together for our LQS shop owner for her 60th birthday party. All of us contributed a square with our happiest moments on it for her. That way they could have memories from all of the family represented.

I was thinking about that this weekend! That would make a very pretty quilt.

    Hey Susanne-
I thought about you when I read this thread.

It'd about sampler quilts representing peoples lives. The poster was actually talking about 50th anniversary quilts.

I like the signed blocks also and I love the double wedding ring...made only one so far. I made a special quilt for a friends 40th Birthday. Had sent blocks back to our original state where we met as neighbors. I had some of her friends sign blocks and her Mom and sister, and had them mail them back to me. I put special blocks of things she loved, her big brown lab dog, her 3 boys handprints,a teapot, cup of tea, each corner had a pieced block of one of the 4 houses she had lived in, a scottie dog (she's Scottish), a thistle flower, and many other things. The center was a applique block of her and her husband on their wedding, gown and veil, him in a tux with even teeny tiny buttons, It was one of my favorite quilts that I had made. I'll see if I can post a pic tomorrow. Plus I put actual photo's on fabric on some blocks. Needless to say when I gave it to her , the tears just rolled down here face. Have fun, it will be special to them
