Hi! What a wonderful opportunity for you and your GD. It is in MHO that you have them do a "quilt" project. If possible, pick out an easy block MSQ 10-minute block. Bring each student a packet with all the pieces pre cut and a finished example. I like the idea of making it a size that may be used for a pillow. Otherwise, bring some pretty clips and let them hang them. Perhaps instructions of "finishing the project on their own, i.e. pillow backing or batting cut to size and backing.) Good luck and have a wonderful day with the children and your family. Let us know what you decide and how it goes.

Yesterday at my LQS I saw the cutest thing....pincushions made from tiny clay flowerpots, painted in bright colors, filled with cotton or batting, and topped with a small piece of floral print fabric (a charm would be big enough). I imagine the person used a hot glue gun to secure the fabric to the pot. Add a couple of flower-head pins and you have an adorable pin cushion those girls could use for years to come. If time is an issue, you could spray paint the pots in advance, or even leave them the original terra cotta color. Good luck!

You're going to have more fun than they are! What a wonderful way to share your knowledge. There may be a future art quilter in the group. Anything is better than sitting with their noses stuck in a video game, etc. Go for it there are lots of ideas offered here.

Regardless of your concerns, please DO it. There are few opportunities where children/ grandchildren request your presence and talent. As a former retired teacher, yo might want to make cut out "kits" for free or a minimal charge, which would save spending time over fabric choices and cutting instructions (those could be included in a handout that comes with the class). Also, if you can, find a sewer/quilter as a silent helper to assist in that large a group. Good luck & enjoy!

Isn't it amazing when so many step up to the line & offer help? I love this board. As far as ideas, infinity scarves are the rage for the pre-teen crowd. We made a bunch of them when my DGD's visited. There is only one seam if you choose the right fabric. Pinterest has many different ways to make them. We used this pattern. they can be as long as you want so they are age appropriate.

That is what my granddaughter & I have been making this week, they are fun, quick & so cute in novelty fabrics. I'm making a bunch for local animal shelter to use for fund raiser at their booth at a local fair, they can ask for a $1 (or more) donation for them. We're using fabric from my stash so that makes the fabric free-LOL -and the least expensive price I've found for the tissues work out to 25 cents a pack. If you google patterns you'll find several free instructions.
