    I used to make jelly roll quilts by taking two of the strips, cutting them into eight inch pieces so I had five eight inch strips of each color, then stitching them into five row blocks where one had three of color 1 and two of color 2 alternating, and the second had two of color one and then 3 of color 2. Then I subcut them into 2.5 inch strips. Then I stitched them into a 25 patch square.(just like a nine patch but with more)..Out of a 40 strip jelly roll, you get 20 10 inch blocks finished. Then I would put sashing in between and find a some border fabric or not....This made a pretty throw sized quilt....and you end up with twenty blocks in it that coordinate but are each different...fun and quick to do. You do end up with some extra strips of five and need to trim a bit off the ends of the eight inch strips once pieced but you can save the extra strips for your scrap bag
