I'd like to make a quilt for my niece who is getting married this coming fall. Her mother said she and her fiance are involved with AA and the serenity prayer is very important to them.

Have any of you made a quilt with this theme?

I guess I could make just about any design and then add a label with the serenity prayer on it...or I could embroider the serenity prayer in one of the borders.

Would love your suggestions. Thanks in advance!

I would embroider the Serenity Prayer in the center, believe me, that will be the most important part of the quilt. I agree you can do just about any pattern but I would have a special plain block for it :)
Another thought....... one of the slogans in AA and Alanon is "keep it simple"- you may want to remember that when planning the quilt :)

There are pre-printed Serenity Prayer panels out there also. I used one that was 36 x 44 to create a king size quilt. There are pillow size panels also, hope this helps,

I would do something with steps, such as Courthouse Steps, because it ties into the Steps outlined in AA. I think that it would be very fitting for them. And you could explain the meaning of the quilt as it relates to AA.

These are just with about a 3 minute search. There are a variety of styles, and some of them have fabulous coordinating fabric.

My husband and I say the Serenity Prayer as grace every evening- just to remind ourselves. ACOA uses this also, and it is a lovely prayer.

I don't have a suggestion but I wanted to say how wonderful it is that you want to make a quilt with that in mind. I think that they will love it! Also I wanted to say that all the suggestions given are great! I just love this board--all these great minds at work!

You can also find it here:

The fabric has the Serenity Prayer, the Prayer of St. Francis (Lord make me an instrument of Your peace), plus a section of the Beatitudes, and the words to Amazing Grace. All in one!
