it is not enough to keep a folder on your computer either, you need to have it backed up somewhere..
I suggest using a 2G thumb drive or even a CD...I prefer the thumb drive as I can take it with me if I need to.
I only keep all that info it is a quilt I designed. For a patterned quilt, a pix is enough. I try to NEVER do the same quilt twice...thus far, the only duplicates I have made were special Memory quilts.

Please keep in mind a computer will crash when we least expect it and have no backup! hard copies, even a notebook is insurance. kinda sorta AND did you know that if you sell a few quilts, table runners, crochet baby hat to donate-your fabric etc is a tax deduction?

I do have a scrapbook/photo album from the beginning. I
don't put in a lot of information, but I do say the size,
where I got the pattern, when it was made and a couple of
photos. Then as I gift them (to family only) I also note
who received them. I have been quilting for years and it's
amazing how much you forget. I do have a file cabinet
drawer where I keep a folder on each quilt with the pattern
etc. My husband made a project winter of 09/10 and photo
graphed all with his digital camera, and put on a memory
stick so we could put it in the safe deposit box. These
were only the quilts that are housed here..and we were doing
that for insurance purposes. God forbid a quilter would
lose them all to a disaster, but I rationalized it all by
saying the insurance co., would believe I had a couch, table
TV, computer, bed...(you know..the regular things) but who
would believe someone had that many quilts.
