Default If you have made a Chevron

As the title says, if you have made a Chevon quilt, what way did you piece it? I have seen it made with HST, flying geese, and 2 rails. Also, I want to piece a twin to queen size. So whatever method of piecing you did what size were your pieces? For instance IF you use a HST method a 2 1/2in HST would be suitable scale for a baby quilt but too small for the size quilts I’d like to make. Thank you, Toogie

I have done 2 quilts over the years with the chevron pattern. I used a 6 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangle and did them like rails. I liked the way the pieces flowed together It also made easy for SID quilting.

Rectangles and all straight edges or triangles and bias edges, I vote for no bias edges.

My very first quilt I ever made was large all over Chevrons. Back then it was before the rotary revolution and I misunderstood what they were saying with "chevrons are a common quilting motif" that it was the quilting and not the block design.

I believe the easiest way is to sew strips together and then cut them at an angle, the same way you would do a Lone Star but with opposing directions (that is you need a left/right or up/down or how you want to think of it.

I made one with HST using 6 inch squares. If I did another, I think I'd try the rail method. It must be faster.

I think the easiest way is squares. Basically, you make strip sets using two fabrics and cross cut them into squares, then set them using a diagonal set. Tutorial is here
