Default If You Spray Baste, Do You Iron The Sandwich Before Quilting?

I am still struggling to improve my quilt sandwich to get it smooth to minimize puckering when quilting. I am doing better with spray basting, as many of you recommend. I just remembered I recall a few threads several months ago that some of you iron the sandwich to 'set' the basting spray for a better hold and to minimize shifting. Do you do this, and are there pros/cons??? Thanks for sharing your experience!

When using 505 basting spray I do not iron. I do iron for using Hobbs 80/20 fusible quilt batt. I have ironed with Elmer's washable glue on a small project to speed up the drying.

I use 505 and I do iron. I put the back and the batting together first and iron. Then I add the top and iron again. Works for me, but I start in the middle and make sure it stays flat and smooth.

I also don't iron when I spray baste. I have used Sulky spray, but now I just use half and half Elmer's Washable Glue and water with a couple of drops of dish washing liquid. I tried a fusible quilt batt on a wallhanging once and it left globs of glue on the surface in some spots. The diluted glue also leaves a few spots if larger drops get on it, but they wash out easily.

I iron the top and backing before sandwiching, but not after.

I do iron after I make the sandwich... its just seems to lay flatter. I started ironing , after I got a few puckers( minor and still better than no spray) , since I ironed .. no more puckers.

I use Elmers washable school glue in a thin stream straight from the bottle in a grid pattern, on the batting first, smooth out, let dry, move to do other sections, and let dry, then flip over and repeat with top. Ironed once when I was in a hurry. Worked fine. Now I am not in a hurry. I've done about 6 this way and couldn't be more pleased with the results.

I think I must have read the same thread. When I was making my QAG wickedly easy quilt block for a baby quilt, I ironed before FMQing. Just lightly with a warm, not hot iron. I do think it kept the pieces together better. It would be difficult to do with a large project tho. But I am about to put together another whole baby quilt and I think I'll try ironing it again, just to see if it makes a difference.
