I have taken my bin of scraps this weekend and started making crumb blocks. You start with 2 small pieces of fabric and keep adding to them. I have made mine into 6" blocks. So far 46 blocks and I have another 50 or so started. Just minless sewing and using scraps. I was tired of cutting squares so decided to give this a try. It is addiciting. something to do with your scraps besides squares. I will use mine for a scrap quilt or donate them to our guild for making charity quilts with. You could just add a sashing aorund them to make the blocks bigger and to break up all the mixed up colors. Kind of like a crazy patchwork effect. doesn't look like I have even touched that bin of scraps yet but I have blocks to show for the work I have done.

Oh my goodness gai!! I almost had a heart attack when i saw u throw pieces that big away!! I used to throw pieces away but those were under 1/2. LOL I use a lot of small pieces especially now that I have been "adopted" and i am learning paper piecing...and I recently learned strip piecing. I am also trying to teach my son to quilt so he uses lots of scraps :)

Use the small pieces to make a crumb quilt, I would like to make one if and when I get time.

I just bought 3 large brown sacks at a garage sale (surprise scraps it said)....when I got home it was alot of small strips, mostly less then an inch). I know I'll figure something out....miniature log cabins or something. I can't afford to buy either so it was still like Christmas! Hey it was fabric! lol

Zepher just go up to seach and click on it then type in crumb quilt and there are a bunch of threads that people have posted their crumb blocks or crumb quilts.

I like to use all of my scraps that I can, and after experimenting with crumb blocks and crazy-style piecing, I have decided that 1.5 inches square is about as small as I like to go.

I still save some of the smaller pieces in a jar - I hate to throw them out, and who knows, maybe sometime I'll find a use for them. I have in the past used small scraps for stuffing stuffed animals and pincushions.

Butterflyblue have you seen some of my tutorials? I use a 1 1/2" template to make lots of blocks with small pieces in them. The shortcut methods I use makes it so you can use the 1 1/2" and still have tiny piecing in those blocks.

Here is a link where you can find all my links.
