I have a Brother SE350 it was less than 500$ sews and embroiders, It does a good job for what I want to do with it the hoop is only 4x4 but so far no complaints on it. It is easy to take the Embroidery part off and just sew. It just slides on.

Try leaving a message on Cutebuns PDA - she has two stand alone embroidery machines, and what she doesn't know about them would probably fit on a postage stamp.

Sorry can't help you on the decision. It's a fun but difficult one. (I just got a new Babylock)

    What is your actual budget?
The janome 300E and 350E only embroider, no sewing.

My budget is negotiable. I can talk hubby in $1000 pretty easy, more if it is a machine that "sings like the angels to me."

Nope Just a lot of fancy stitches and alphabet. I am fine with that.

I just want a new toy. But want to make sure I get what I want. I can usually wiggle an expensive toy a couple times a year, at least once.

I was thinking about the 9500 or 9700 too. Definitely want to stay in the Janome family if brand new.

Guess what? Called my janome dealer and talked to him for awhile. After all was said and done, he told my he just got a used 9500 in and will be going thru it by next week. I asked how much and he said he would trade it for my truck! LOL I have an H3. I told him I would trade my motorcycle for it, but not my Hummer. LOL

And I will keep my 1600.

He will let me do layaway so that is a big help.

Thanks for all the help I really do appreciate having someone to listen to me.
