I'm a bit confused too...but usually when you use the "whatever" and 7/8ths bits - you put 2 together, draw a line down the middle sew 1/4 inch either side of the line, then cut along the line...this then would give the right measure....Hope this makes sense...would really have to see the rest to work out if this is correct.

I think if you sew it on it should be OK - doesn't look like you are considering the 1/4" seam allowance, at least try that!

As others said, rotate the triangle. The long diagonal of the triangle should run parallel to the angle of the goose.

It looks too big because of the seam allowance. You're adding a triangle to a rectangle shape. Once sewn and seam pressed, it should come out just right.

Yip - that bottom one is correct. That piece that's "hanging over the edge" will get smaller when you do the 1/4" seam....then you cut them off to make that edge of the block ----welllll, without the dogears. Can't think how to call that.

I'm still confused. I sewed it on and the point of triangle is hanging off there...if I cut it off there won't be a point. That's not right is it?

Don't cut anything off yet. Measure the dog ear first. When you sew the next row to that one it will form your point. Do you have some of the next row done yet where you can test it? Easy way is just to baste and see how it looks that way you aren't stretching the fabric.

Also press toward the triangle and you will see how you still will have your point. Please don't cut anything off yet. Fons and porter make a template for trimming them which does make it easier to match seems and makes it less confusing.you'll see it will work out. I use to go through the same thing when I was making the flying geese until my aunt told me to try it this way then I could see it and it made more sense.
