The brown triangle on the left side is not sewn on correctly. The part of the triangle that's on the top should be the part that is sewn to the side of the rest of the block. Hope you can understand what I'm trying to describe. Try pinning or basting it together to see whether it fits together better before you sew on machine.

First of all the triangle is positioned wrong. You need to turn it. next, double check your cutting measurement and be sure your 1/4" seam is not too big. Or when you are sewing the square on to make the triangle, sew JUST A HAIR to the outside of the line, toward the edge. This will account for the width of the thread and the fabric as it turns back over itself and may give you a better size. Also, I have found that thread makes a difference, too. A larger thread, say C&C will need a bit more room than a thinner thread, like Superiors "So Fine." You aren't too far off, though, so keep trying!

Look at step one diagram. You will see the finished triangles-shown as red and white. If you sew the white to the dark then attach it to the side of the geese it will fit. The seam you made to complete the HQT takes up that bit that you worried about. Marvel

You are going to be just fine turn it around to the correct position and sew it on (taking up the first 1/4 in seam allowance) then sew on your other triangle taking up the second 1/4 in seam allowance coming into that same point It looks big because you have two seam allowances coming into that same point What I would do is put all of the triangles together into squares that you are going to need then attach to your flying geese block takes alot of the guessing out of it all

I saw on a Fons and Porter show that if you chop the tip off at 1/4", then flip the triangle over, right sides together and stitch with 1/4# seam allowance, it will fit perfectly when you fold it back out. You can also chop the tip after you sew, it is just easier to line up if you square it off first.
