I have fabric and then I wait for a pattern to hit me!

i design my quilt first and then i hit the stash (i have thousands of yards of fabric in my stash).

if i don't have exactly what i need i dye and make exactly what i'm looking for.

Depends. Sometimes it's the fabric first then find a good pattern for it. Other times it is a pattern and then I find the fabrics I want to use. I usually shop my stash first and then if I need something to spice it up go shopping.

Pattern - for art quilt or traditional. I like to have a map of where I am going before I pick the colors, scale and pattern of the fabric that will get me there.

Both for me too. If I see a pattern I really like, I'll go get the goods for it specifically. But sometimes when I'm standing there in the store, another fabric will call out to me. My scraps talk to me, too. I have most of my fabrics divided into project bags waiting for me to get done with my current project, and the here-to-date silent scraps are in totes and tubs.

Usually, I pick my pattern first, then see what fabrics I have that will look good with it. I make scrappy quilts most of the time.

If a fabric jumps out at me, I buy it and figure out it's use later.

Sometimes I buy fabric for a pattern I have in mind.

I pick the pattern for the recipient and then the fabric.
