I'm Lost
I'm making quilts for all the moms/grandmas as presents at my wedding. I have no idea what to make for my MIL she is kinda odd to begin with. But they have a great space to hang a small quilt in their living room, so the idea was to match that. They are into the Mexican theme and colors.
So I have colors, but no pattern. It's my future MIL so I want it to be awesome. I can paper piece, and thought about some crazy NY beauty pattern, but also thinking about adding wedding planning in there some where lol.
Any thoughts on an awesome Mexican theme colored quilt??
The only one I've considered is the lone star, but I'm still iffy on it.
TIA

I agree that the colors will do the work for you but I also like the NY Beauty idea. Take a look at the 'Christmas Pickle' pattern. It actually goes together quite easily - for a pp'd quilt at any rate - and is not overly large. Might do the trick for the wall hanging size.

I went to my favorite inspiration pages, quilters cache -- and found this block idea. If you go to the link, and then click on the M for Mexican - you can see her Mexican cross -- in a variety of colors, this would be awesome: http://www.quilterscache.com/QuiltBlocksGalore.html

J Michelle Watts has a # of Southwestern/Mexican quilt patterns that are beautiful - http://www.jmichellewatts.com/ my other recommendation would be for the Mexican Star.

I would vote for the Mexican Star also. A friend made one and it was beautiful! The fabrics really make this quilt gorgeous. Where it looks like there is curved piecing it is really a loose sort of "pocket of fabric" that gets slightly turned back to create the curved look. Hard to describe but it is not curved piecing in case you shy away from that technique. There is one pattern listed on ebay if you need it but I am sure you can buy it elsewhere if you decide to do that pattern.
