    perhaps you can find a dealer or repair shop that offers loaners.

    I am so sorry this happened to you. I was going to ask if you checked the length or width, but you already know its the shaft.

    I have a machine that the shaft is bent too above the needle area and wondering how did that come about? Cuz, I brought it like that for $4 and it's a Singer so one day i will take it in for repairs but at least i have my 306 and a fw... Hope it is simple & inexpensive to fix and so you can get about your merry way of finishing that quilt! Sorry for your machine breaking down.

    Some computerized machines - such as the Janome 6500, 6600P, etc. - need oiling with every few bobbin changes. There's a wick in the bobbin area that needs a drop of oil, so it's not just non-computerized machines that need occasional oiling :)
