I'm sure many of you already know about Quilts for Kids, but I just recently discovered them. It is such an amazing way to donate quilts I'm super excited, I've been looking for a cause worthy charity to donate quilts to and I believe Quilts for Kids will be a perfect fit, as I LOVE children and have three of my own. Thank God, my children have been healthy for the most part, but there are so many that are not, and my heart breaks for these parents. You never know when it could be your own baby laying there fighting for their lives. There's no promise of tomorrow. Several quilters in my community are going to be making 12" kid themed quilt blocks for me to sew together along with the quilts I finish. An elder lady just called me yesterday to donate kid themed fabric. She said she purchased it when her grandkids were smaller to make pjs with (her youngest is now 16) LOL I'm glad she saved it, because now it will be used by another child in the form of a quilt It's heart warming to see people get involved. I have set a goal of 30 quilts by May 1. I wanted to share the excitment with my friends on the QB to keep me motivated. I will be posting pictures, and keeping everybody updated.

I think you are an angel in disguise!!! I'd love to be able to donate but I have a cat and 2 small dogs in the house and when I've contacted charities, because of this, they say they can't accept the quilts due to allergy reasons. I even asked them if I washed them in All Free and Clear, put them in the shipping box right out of the dryer and got them out of the house immediately if they could accept them then and the answer has been no. I sure wouldn't want to make a child more ill than they already are so for now I get to cheer on those of you who can do this. I'll be right there with you in spirit helping you in every way possible to make a child feel safe, warm and loved. God bless you!!

You may still be able to donate to QFK. I have 2 dogs and a (gasp) smoking household. My quilts for them have never been turned away. I wash/dry before giving and always spray w/Febreeze as soon as I get out of the car (as their HQ are near to me I usually drop off). I have, in the past, see some of the donated quilts lying in the sun for a bit but they are not turned away. And you don't need to LA. They do require machine quilting but only basic quilting. I've done simple crosshatching every 3-4 in. and they have commented on how wonderfully 'heavily' quilted they were. And they will supply kits to you if you have no stash of your own. All you would need to provide is batting. Give them a try.

I agree, I honestly think they would accept your quilts. To my knowledge, they do their own washing even if the quilts have been washed to ensure cleanliness. I love that they provide kits, not everybody has a stash, they are an amazing group

That is such a great cause. I now donate locally. My daughter sees a GI specialist and whenever she is there, we donate(no special trips and we save alot in shipping). The first time we were there, we dropped off pillowcases for the pillowcase challange(they have a spot on their website that you can tell them how many you gave). I have three kids and they have plenty of quilts but I still just love to quilt. So I don't make as many as I would like to, but something is better than nothing. It is the thought that counts!!! I hope you reach your goal.
