usb port is the way to go with these it avoids the cards and writer. Didn't realize they had an entry level with usb now. :-)

I also have aJanome 660 and wanted to do more embroidery -- only I went the other way and bought the Brother Quattro 6000. It is fantastic -- does everything but wash windows! Originally I thought to trade in my Janome, but glad I kept it and use the two side-by-side.

As far as getting a new embroidery machine, get one that you can get support and instructions. Nothing is more frustrating than fumbling around computer screens not knowing where to go or what to push. Get one with the biggest hoop you can afford or you will find yourself outgrowing it too soon.

I have the Futura and paid 800.00 and a Brother 700ll for 799.95 and my reliable PE150 I got years ago,for 499.00,at Walmart. Still is a little workhorse.

Walmart sells a Brother for under $400. The limitation is that it is only a 4 x 4 hoop embroidery field. It has lots of built in stitches and is also a regular sewing machine. Brother sells a lot of cards forit or you can buy a blank one and write to it with Ped Basic, which allows you to download a lot of the free stuff out there on the net. You may want to check into the prices of the cards for the Embroidery machines. Some have a brutal price tag. you should try to get one with a USB port that lets you load any fonts or designs that you want. Please don't be in a hurry to buy one.
