Walmart also removed the fabric section from our local store. Pretty dumb move down here. Our LQS did not reopen after Ike, so now we have to drive 35+ miles to get to any kind of fabric. A community about 40 miles of here got Walmart to put fabric back in one of their stores by sending letters. So if any of you are interested, you might try letters to Walmart.

A very good place is www.whittlesfabrics.com.
Good prices and high quality fabric. I don't waste my money on WalMart quality fabric.

    I agree.
I agree, too. Connecting Threads is great on their fabric prices. I just bought a kit from them plus 4 yards for backing. For what I paid for both, I would have more for the kit alone at other stores. Also check websites for fabric and see what they are having sales on or clearance. Sometimes you can get shipping for free, too.

Met a lovely young lady at the Seven Sisters Quilt Show (seven local guilds) at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, CA, who sells only at shows and on-line. Her site is fabricforquilters.com and all top quality fabric is $5/yd.

Best wishes for finding the fabric you need. Our Wal-Mart fabric department gets smaller all the time, but I am grateful that we still have one!! Really like the prices.

If I am making a quilt, I do not use Walmart fabric. To much time invested for cheap fabric. But I did use for other things and at least I could get a colored zipper, etc.

Know what you mean about Wal-Mart fabric. Sometimes the quality is nice enough, though, to be used sparingly. But I do agree, not a good idea as main fabric. A couple of quilting friends and I make I Spy quilts for children with cancer and also for homeless shelters here. The WM fabric is fine for 5" squares which are used for this purpose. Also keeps the costs a bit lower.

    Nice talking with you!

I generally buy fabric only when it's on sale. I usually buy for my stash, not for a specific project. When I started quilting I visited JoAnn's frequently, but now I find I can get better fabric at lower prices online or at sales.

This site has Red Rooster fabrics at $2.99/yard, and shipping is very reasonable if you buy enough to fill a USPS priority mail box. Their customer service is great!
