Many times when children are taken from their home and put into foster care, they leave with very little to call their own.

I like to give to my own home town area where there is plenty of need.

Starting with your Dept. Of Social Services and Foster care service is a great place to start.

Consider Hospice...they would be greatly appreciated. (I'm a former Hospice RN and know from personal experience)

How about checking with the local Domestic Violence Center...many times it is a quick escape with nothing but the clothing they are wearing...a warm hug with a quilt could mean the world to a victim child and adult.

Check with hospice also hospitals that have a center for Womens Health or Chemo Patients -they really appreciate a nice quilt,my Husband was always cold during and after his treatments- Childrens Hospitals There are so many in need My MIL's quilting circle of church ladies accept fabrics/threads for making guilts for several of these I listed -Also Elderly Care facilities take donations to make quilts to give to the less fortunate and they are so tickled to know they can still be useful and busy and in doing so they pass along Hope to those in need

Though I want you to consider first, if charity starts at home, in this case? Perhaps consider making quilts for your brother and any children/grand they have? Also her parents, siblings or close friends. Maybe memory quilts with photos included?

It could be a very touching gesture to give them quilts made from her stash.

I agree here it would be nice for the other members of the family to have something that was hers. Giving her husband a quilt made from her stash...

I'd say start with family members first - that could be quite a few - if you figure children, grand children, or greats....

Then, the nursing homes love lap quilts - the people enjoy them so much and if they can have flannel backs for warmth; some are so cold, winter and summer and need the comfort of warmth from that quilt... I plan to do that once I have my family done.

member in the service in Afganistan, or someone from church, or a neighbor, send them something
they can wrap up in and enjoy. Maybe they won't miss being home.
They appreciate those things more than anyone realizes
