I used velvets, satin, taffeta, wools when I made my Crazy Quilt. A friend had tubs of these fabrics, and I had tubs of cottons, so we traded. It was fun!
Did quite a bit of embroidery on m c. quilt also

I used all types of material on hand from fabric scraps-The bigger scraps I embroidered designs on and also used RicRac, lace, and scraps from various trims I had on hand-still in the making for the quilt, and will be done when Grandson gets married-some scraps are from his mothers clothes and scrubs-she was our daughter who passed away 3 years ago when he was 9 years old

I made a CQ using old prom dresses & fancy blouses & ties almost anything. I used the areas that had motifs or some fancy stitching then only had to do minimal hand work. I think it turned out well

I made one for my son all in velvets and using fancy stitches on my machine plus hand embroidery. It was a throw for his bed for a long time and is now hung on the wall at the head of his bed.

I have just made cotton to date. I have seen some gorgeous ones made from a variety of fabrics and a real pretty one made from old neckties

I've been working on a crazy quilt made from very old men's shirts. I bought the squares at a yard sale for a dollar. There were 26 of them. They were smelly and stained. The first thing I did wash them and hung them outside in the shade. A few of them still have stains. They ranged from 18" to 11" I embroidered them, added cotton lace , and sewed buttons and other embelishments. Then I squared them up and zig zaged the edges. Every square has red of a sort in it. I'm going to put a red sasching in between the squares, and on the back. I,m thinking of putting a black binding on it.
