Happy New Year!

I have a question for those of you with an Inspira quilting frame. Do you have it set it as a 10ft or the 5ft frame? I have the room for the full frame, but it's tight, and I dont see myself doing A Lot of big quilts. However hubby doesn't think it's a good idea to Go back & forth with resizing the frame. So my question is: what do you all do?

Well, this is timely. I happen to have a new to me inspira frame sitting in my living room as I type this. I've been wanting a frame/machine set up and found a deal on Craigslist. I just brought it home Monday. I don't do big quilts any more, to hard on the shoulders and arms, and my family has all the quilts they can handle, so I only do twin and smaller works. The frame is currently a 10 foot set up. But I'm in the process of converting it to a 5 foot frame, once converted it will join me in my studio. I've had to order the crib length tracks from Grace. Just waiting for them to come in the mail. I will store the extra pieces in case I do decide to change it back, but honestly I don't see that happening anytime soon. I realize this decision limits my size of FMQ space, but I'm ok with that. I figure I can FMQ a center area of a twin size quilt, then attach the border using the QAYG method, and attach the back like you normally would when doing a QAYG quilt. And my other smaller projects will fit on a 5 foot frame. My suggestion is, this is your hobby and you need to be comfortable with your set up. My twin size quilts will be far and few between and if your larger quilts will be far and few between, there are options for those ( home sewing machine, professional long armer, QAYG) without a 10 foot set up taking up the space daily.

I used a Grace frame with my Brother PS1500 machine for 9 years. I usually left it set up on the smaller setting...since most of my quilts were baby quilts and lap quilts. I'm not sure if it was 5' or 6'. Then, when I thought I'd be needing to set it up for a larger quilt, I tried to plan on doing a few larger quilts so it was worth setting it up again. Do whatever you feel comfortable with....the nice thing is you can always change it after you've had it awhile. Now, I have a 10' frame and an Innova machine. The 10' does take up room, but luckily, I can still squeeze thru on the sides. The only thing I might have done differently is to purchase wheels for it....then I could roll it a bit back when I'm not quilting. But, it's been working fine for 6 years.....so I'm still happy and grateful to have it. Good luck with your set-up and remember there is a learning curve for anything you have. Enjoy it and soon you will be an "old pro"!
