I have had 3 Kenmore machines during my sewing life and have had no problems with any of them. The first one I got in the 60's and it was made of steel and was sooooooo heavy. I wish I had it today. My husband didn't think I wanted it anymore and took it apart and threw it away. My heart was sad.

interesting information for sure! For years Kenmore was the #1 machine in the sewing industry! Out ranked them all in the trials/tests by garment makers and home sewer's!

I bought a Kenmore 1650 when I worked at Sears in 1969. Like an idiot I gave it away in the late 90's when I bought my Elna, didn't realize what a stupied mistake that was. Sat I went and bought a used Kenmore 1703 made in 1973. Sure can't beat those old machines for dependability or sewing quality. This one is here to stay.

I bought a janome new home machine at sears for my Daughter about 6 years ago. She ended up leaving it behind when she moved, my machine broke so I used hers for quite awhile. I paid 300 for it on a Black Friday Sale. It is a sweet little machine I must say.

I found this out after the fact. We went to a Janome dealer and bought my machine. A few months later while shopping at Sears I found my machine for half the cost as at the dealers. For Christmas i bought my daughter the one from Sears and she loves it.

I have two vintage Kenmores and love both of them. My son bought the first one for a $1 for the table and gave me the machine. I use it to put bindings and heavy quilting. The second I got from Shop good will.com and I use it for sewing in my extra bedroom I am going to get it to my daughter that wants a machine. It is basic and works great. I paid $7 for that machine. So, I guess Kenmore vintage machines are great machines. Both are from the 1980s.

I had no idea about any of this. I guess I need to research my two Kenmore's. I have one that is about 25 years old and one that is much older and all metal gears. It is an old work horse. Does anyone know where to start looking for info on older machines?

Start looking right on this board in the Vintage and Antique machines section :-)

other than that, find the model numbers and do an internet search, there is lots of info out there, including dedicated Kenmore forums, about your Kenmore machines
