Default Invisible Thread - is there a trick?

I have just spent the last 16 minutes trying to start a spool of monofilament thread. First I couldn't find the notch that I assumed was there, and ended up digging out an old magnifying glass after I removed the top and bottom labels. Then I couldn't find the thread that was supposed to be there, and when I did there wasn't enough to grab. That's where my tweezers came in handy. Except I couldn't pull the darn thread out of the notch. Then I had to find my Exacto knife to cut a notch into the notch to free the thread. Finally I have the beginning of this spool. Is there a trick? I am dreading the same time-wasting procedure for the second spool.

I had that trouble with my first spool of Gutermann, but fortunately I had others to try and none of them was as bad. Eventually I ran out of spools and had to go back to the "stuck" one, but this time around I was able to find the end more quickly. Don't know what made the difference.

    So, yeah, you aren't alone.

To answer Deborahlee's question, it's the Signature brand sold at Joann's. And an update - it sews really well, so I may forgive it.

I have some top name nylon thread but, I haven't used any for years. It seems to get twisted or caught on something. It always goes with every color, so I may try it again.

Personally, I won't use monofilament thread, so I can't offer any suggestions.

    1. Try putting a net over the spool to prevent the thread from unraveling.
    2. Make sure the spool is in an upright position (don't set it horizontally on the uptake pin).
    3. Make sure the end piece is long enough so it doesn't get buried in the slot when you are done.
