    Default iowa trip

My husband and I are planning a trip through Iowa in July. We are leaving from Arlington Heights, Illinois after seeing our son and his wife's new home. Do any of you have suggestions of must see quilt shops, etc along our way? We are going to end our journey at the Missouri Quilt shop in Hamilton before heading back to St. Louis. THANKS, and Happy Quilting.

There are lots of great shops in Iowa. What area are you traveling to?? Pick up a quilters traveling companion guide to take with you. They have a website too.

If you pass by Cedar Rapids, Pine Needles is a MUST.

Marion, connected to Cedar Rapids. Connie's Quilt Shop. & Cottage Rose. LeClaire - Expressions in Thread. Neal's Sewing Center, Muscatine (Try out Tru-Cut rulers, Pick up Tru-Cut electric rotary blade sharpener, works great). Amana - Fern Hill. Don't miss stopping in Kalona to visit Amish museum and stores. And many many more.

First of thanks to all that have responded. We are traveling along highway 20 in Illinois then coming in Iowa at Dubuque going down to travel along Highway 80, BUT do not mind detouring to see things or if there are good quilt shops, etc.... My husband is into woodworking so I would like to find something for him. He really enjoys going to quilt shop because he appreciates the workmanship in the quilts the shops have on display.

If you are going near Iowa City or Kalona...Kalona is an amish community near Iowa City that should have (at least) used to hav quilt shops and ther should also be some in Iowa City. unfortunately I do not live there any longer or I would say I would meet up with you somewhere. (:

Ames has Quilting Connection. Ames is on Hwy 35. and shop is located on main street. If you can't find the right fabric there, they don't make it. Bet she has 10,000 bolts plus. She has lots of good samples to look at. I can spend hours in that shop.
