I loved my Rowenta, but when it died, I replaced it with a $20 Shark from Walmart. So far it has been doing well also. Nice weight to it and still going strong after about a year of hard wear.

I have has two Rowenta steam irons that worked fine for about a year but then began to leak. My latest is a Canadian made Sunbeam steam iron. Very similar but cost half as much. It is kinda heavy though.

I stopped buying expensive irons. I use the Black and Decker Classic. The last Rowenta I bought it quit working after a few months. Customer service was horrible. I liked it while it was working though.

I agree with buying cheap irons and then replacing them a little more often. I have had bad experience with Rowenta irons and their service, or lack of service. I had a Shark that I absolutely loved till it caught fire while I was using it. No more Sharks. I now have two cheap B&D irons, one in the basement sewing studio and one in my bedroom.

I have been pleased with it so far. Of course it was to replace a Rowenta that I never was too fond of.
Where did your Shark catch fire?

I like the Black and Decker Digital Advantage. I can never find an iron in a thrift store that isn't all scratched on the bottom.
