Help please. Somewhere I saw a technique for sewing strips into tubes, cutting & then opening one seam per tube. Can't seem to find it. Another know of this? Thanks

one type of quilt that does this is a bargello and if you search for that word here on the board you'll find a lot of information plus you can google it on the web and find a lot. Another type of tube quilt is demonstrated by the Missouri Star Quilt Company, and others, even links on the board...but their technique doesn't require you to open any seams, it's a way to cut tubes to make blocks easily. Again, check out this board for Missouri Star Quilt links or go check them out on the web. They also have lots of other good tutorials.

    Hey Dotty,
All you have to do is to sew your fabric strips together then bring the bottom up and sew it to the top strip. After that cut them the width you want (you'll have loops) Take a seam out then move down one block and take out a seam on the next loop. On the third loop move down one more row and take out that seam. You can do it, I first practiced on 12 1 1/2" x 18" strips. I just cut 1 1/2" off 12 different fats and sewed them together. It's the same process as doing a Bargello.

NOW I get it! I saw basically this same technique in the book Four Patch Frolic by Me & My Sister Designs. They use Charm Packs & Cake Layers.
