Ok, so I was practicing some of the specialized stitches on my sewing machine (which is a Singer) and I decided I wanted to see what it was like it the feed dogs were not up. Well, I decided quickly that I would rather leave them up BUT when I switched the lever back to the "up" position, they would not go up :-(

Has this ever happened to anyone?

Does anyone know what I should do?

My husband said he would look at it but wanted me to ask on here just in case someone else had experienced this issue before.

    Thanks for all the help!

Try turning the wheel by hand a couple of times and see if they pop up.

You should be able to easily push the lever back and bring them back up....seems my machine which is a Kenmore sometimes does this. Turn it off and back on...sew a little..see if something doesn't get them back up. Your machine won't move fabric foreward with them down....as I'm sure you quickly learned. LOL You drop the feed dogs to free motion quilt where you move the fabric with your hands.

Mine did that too, but when I tried to sew they came up. Hope it works for you.

    Yes it works!

Thanks for all the help! My sister is going through a really rough time right now and so the other night when I could not sleep I found myself (for no reason at all) designing a quilt for her. Not only did I design it, but I also went through my fabric stash in my sewing/craft room and found the fabric to use. I have spent the majority of my day preparing the top to be pieced together. I am pleased to say that ALL the strips have been cut and tomorrow I am going to begin piecing the top together! It is very odd because it is almost as if I am being driven by a force beyond my control to complete this.

Then this afternoon when I was practicing with some stitches and that happened I kinda freaked out a little bit!

I will be sure to post pictures when I am finished . . . it is a labyrinth lap quilt :-)

It happened to me recently and it turned out I had a nice little mattress of lint built up under the feed dogs. Apparently it dislodged when I dropped them. Found it when I took the cover plate off. Once cleaned out, everything went back together.

A lot of machines will pop the dogs back up as soon as you start to sew again... try that. Or if it is a computer machine turn it off then bac on, and that wil pop them back up also.
