    most of the quilt shops (mercerie, bricolage, tessuti) have expensive cotton, a good portion of their quilting cottons comes from the US at triple the price, but most of them have a great selections of accessories (ricracs, ribbons, bottons etc.)

    They actually have quite a number of guilds or groups, the largest one with is Quilt Italia, it has several chapters thru Italy and they are very active with shows and on the internet, but there are several independent patchwork groups, I know of one in Bassano close to Vicenza who has a fantastic quilt show in and old castle every year, well attended.

    When I was there, I ended up buying a dishtowel on my last day. Could not find fabric stores at all.
