    Default Jack's Chain...have you made one?

    I'm so totally in love with the Scrappy Jack's Chain pattern I saw on Pinterest and have been for about a year. I have enough scraps to make one. Has anyone made one? Is there set-in-seams? Something about setting the triangles to the nine patch blocks that has me a bit hesitant to try. Please tell me how easy this pattern really is and not to be afraid!!

    yes, this shows/states that there are 'set in' seams. it also states it is an old pattern and there are variations shown.
    i have never made one, but i love the look of the 9-patch blocks variation

    I fell in love with the Ring Cycles version, I know I was looking at one that was all triangles (no center hexagon centers) so it was easier to piece.

    That is really a nice way to do the hexies. Also good for a take a long project and I have found that it is easier to do the sew in seams by hand than by machine.

    I am also totally in love with this pattern. When I first started quilting, I saw one at a show & was completely enamoured. I have done tons of garment construction, including under arm gussets and really didn't want to tackle a lot of set in seams, so I just admired them from afar. Then at a quilt show, I got the Improved Jack's Chain pattern (don't be put off by the illustration).

    Which has no Y seams, but still just sat on it. Then, I saw the 'Rock Around the Block' pattern in F&P. It's basically the same idea as the improved pattern, but set in blocks with sashing rather than a single chain.

    I made the F&P pattern (linen background) first as sort of a practice run, then made the improved (dk grey background) still needs borders. Neither is quilted yet, I tend to piece at the cottage during the summer, then long arm in the winter. After making the first couple of blocks, I had some acrylic templates cut. I was then able to cut some of the pieces over large & then trim down. Once you get going it's pretty easy, but time consuming.

    Those quilts are beautiful and I love the link to the other pattern.
    Lindaschipper- go for it!! I was reluctant to do my Shakespeare in the Park and I'm so glad I did !!!

    Wow! thanks jan!! i love playing on wayback machine & they have a few of the geocities pages saved, but i had not yet found oocities archive of nothing but geocities. i loved the old geocities site & i have just spent waaaayyyy too much time with the jacks chain links & other quilt patterns like hidden wells.
