I have a 7700, and while I like mine, if I were shopping today, knowing it is basically a discontinued model (for a couple of reasons - the APC plate and the older AcuFeed style), I would look closer at an 8900SE, or, if you could swing it, the new 9400.

I'm not sure what an 8700 is (mentioned above) - perhaps the poster meant the 6700 (updated version of the 6600)?

Thank you for all your help. I’ve taken the 7700 off my list and added the 8200. I’m leaning toward the 8200 but need to find a good deal on a used one, probably eBay. So complicated to decide! Need to sell my Bernina Virtosa 153QE and my Brother 1500. Guess I will try to do that on eBay.

The 6600 is a workhorse ... I purchased the 8900 for the larger throat space and it sews and FMQs like a dream but I couldn’t part with my 6600. Good luck with your decision.

I wanted to get the 6600 for so many years but since I am also so far away from everything, I was hesitating....two months ago while visited son...I came across the new 6700.... And that was it......
You really must consider this machine before making your choice...it seems to have everything but the free arm....and the autothreader doesn,t work sometimes ...but so far....I am in love with it....I am also lucky enough that the people from the store are suppirting me so nice, answering all my doubts and questions by emails.....the machine is awesome and its all metal.....good luck

I have the 6600 and I love it. Dont need the free arm so far, but I have a Brother I take to classes that has that feature.

I also love my 6600. I have only had it serviced once in almost 10 years, although it could use it again. Taking it in right after Christmas.

I have the 6600 and I love that machine with a burning hot passion! I love it so much that I've had a standing purchase offer with my local dealer if a kindly-used 6600 comes through the door, for nearly a year. I want a second one as a backup! So far, no deal. Nobody wants to let go of theirs, and I can't blame them!

I test-drove the 8900 when it first came out, thinking I might upgrade from my 6600...and left it there. I liked the 8900 fine, but it wasn't improved enough over the 6600 to be worth the price tag, IMO. If I didn't already own the 6600 I might have been tempted, but since I'm having such a love affair with the 6600 I took a pass and haven't regretted it.

The 6600 is such a tank. I've managed to (carefully! slowly!) sew through 8 layers of garment leather with mine, repairing a cuff on DH's jacket - that amazed me. That machine is awesome.

Honestly I think you'll probably be happy with either machine. They're both very, very good.

I love, love, love my 6600 wouldn't trade it for anything! It's got a 9" throat & never quits. I use my 4000 series Janome for sleeves & hems, & also to take to classes. I will never give it up. (unless I can get one that does housework)
