I have a Janome 6600 and love it but I didn't ever know how to change the needle position. I just always sew a scant 1/4" by watching the throat numbers! How did you change the needle position???? I was so excited when I purchased the machine and didn't get many lessons that I just ran home and started sewing!!

I have a 6600 too and when I use the 1/4" accufeed foot the seam is more 3/8". So if I remember to change it I have to do it everytime. How nice to know this! Thanks!
Jordan, you use th adjust button to move the needle position.

I have it set to 4.0 which is the regular 1/4 for my machine. Each one may be a bit different. If I have to have it scant I use 4.5. Also the thread makes a big difference. I use Aurifil if I am making something that needs to be exact. Most of the time I use Connecting threads which is quite a bit thicker.

Part the reason one person's 1/4" is different from someone else's is the way we feed the fabric through.
I was in the cupboard yesterday pulling my box of 2.5" squares and saw the box that has leftover quilt pieces in it. I have a stack of at least 30-40 9 patches that I've made over the years on different machines to find that perfect 1/4" for me.
My post #7 should say on my 6600 the needle setting is two pokes to the left of default.

The 1/4" is not set in stone. It differs every time you use a different fabric and thread.
That's why it's a good idea to check your 1/4" seam before you start a new project.
The way you press your seams will also make a difference.

thanks everyone... I have also come to realize that I don't cut perfect either!! so even if my machine is set perfectly my cuts of fabric could be a hair off as well. I will figure this out sooner or later!!

In a recent class (Sewing Machine 101) the instructor went over the Memory option on most of the newer machines and encouraged us to program at least one option. I knew it was there but just never took the time to set it up. On regular cotton piecing, I always have to move my needle setting upon starting the machine...
