I've had mine for 2 months and find it a bit daunting to learn it on my own. But I love it for what I've used it for. Haven't tried FMQ yet or the Accu-feed foot. I did darn with it, and was very happy with how it worked, but was a bit surprised I was supposed to use the buttonhole foot for darning. It worked like a charm! I didn't know about the button for 1/4" sewing -- after I get off the board I'll go investigate that function.
One question -- does anyone know what the three different FMQ feet are used for? I can't find any information on the specific use for each foot.

The three different feet for FMQ are there for personal preference. I prefer the metal foot but I know a lot of quilters like the clear foot. Try them all and see which one you like best.
The best part of that foot is the adjustable height. You want to turn the little round part until the foot skims the top of your fabric - not too tight, but not too loose either. I always play with that adjustment before I even think about adjusting tension.

I have had my 8900 for a year now - I have a like/hate relationship with it. I don't love it but I've learned to appreciate some of the things it does. I am not a fan of other things - like seams that get folded back when going over the bobbin cover. It's all a matter of personal preference, though. I now have a Brother DreamCreator but I still have the 8900 too and have used it a couple times since I got the DC ...
