Janome Magnolia or Baby Lock Rachel????
My BIL is wanting to buy my sister a machine for Xmas. She sews: kids clothes, crafts, piecing. He is asking me which to buy: Baby Lock Rachel or Janome Magnolia? I have no idea. I have Berninas and a Janome DC1050 (for travel). Love them all. Please help. I just don't know what to tell him.

You can read many reviews for the magnolia at amazon, overstock, joann's. It gets high marks. I notice the Rachel has 50 stitches vs 30 but appears smaller and lighter? Hard to tell from a picture. The Magnolia weighs 18# and looks full-sized so it'd possibly be more stable. I've not explored the Rachel but can say the Magnolia is a quality machine. There are lots of utube and online reviews for it. One woman has a thriving business selling bags she makes using the 7330.

I just recently purchased a Janome Magnolia 7330. I really do like this machine. This machine feels sturdy and sews well. I don't know anything about the Baby Lock... but I can tell you that she would be very happy with the Janome.

she needs to test drive both, both are quality machines and are about the same size and feature wise, and are both popular models so its really which one she likes the feel of. I think the racheal does have a metal frame so it should be as solid as the janome. I am a brother girl so I would choose the brother-made babylock racheal, but I know the magnolia is also very popular model but have never owned a janome. I have been very happy with all my brother's. One is over 20 years old and still runs well so I know they last.

You can find reviews of both models the NV-40 brother or the BL50A for the babylock on
http://sewing.patternreview.com/
The reviews are more thorough than amazon and you can see what people like or don't like about a model, you do have to join to read some of the older reviews of models
