I, too, love my Janome and I hear all good things about Brother, too. I fully agree with staying away from Singers.

I have a Janome Memory Craft 4800 QC and I love it.

You should check out the Janome's offered on Amazon.com as they have several under $300. The Janome 2212 is only $179 and there's no shipping cost. It has 12 built in stitches and is kind of cute!

I think that any Janome you choose will turn out to be a workhorse. The bells and whistles tend to come along with other things like quieter sewing, but I have three Janomes varying in price and they are all great. Choose the model that has the best price with the most features and you won't go wrong.

I have two Janomes, a Memory Craft 11000 Special Edition and an AQS 25th Anniversary. I love both of these machines and recommend Janomes machines to anyone!

I only have Janomes too. Recently I bought the 7700 model LOVE IT I had used a Decor Excel model for nearly ten years and it only ever had services done to it (its now my back up machine) and I just bought my daughter a JR1012 model to learn on. I haven't had any problems with any of them. Would recommend janome to anyone.

I own 5 Janomes .... I wouldn't trade them anything. It's true they are workhorses and rarely need repair. Good luck and hope she can find one within her price range.

I've owned Janomes for years - decades actually, but who's counting. Love them. I think you get a lot more for less money with a Janome than you do with some other brands.
