I have gotten the rectangle pattern but have not yet made it. I also purchased 2 rolls of the Bosal batting. My math isn't the greatest but it seemed to me that you need more than 1 roll.

Amy, I just made the same pattern you have. It was really easy- much more so than I anticipated. I used a jelly roll. Not sure about cutting on the bias- no experience with that. I used the Bosal strips but you could cut your own. If I make another one I'll cut the strips a quarter inch less than the pre-made.
It makes a nice sized rug and the only binding is the two short sides.

Yes you need more then one roll of batting strips for one jelly roll. I buy a roll of it when I visit a quilt shop and don't know what to buy. LOL I have a basket full of them. I use it for tote straps, coasters, hot pads, etc.

I posted a picture of my finished rug in the Pictures forum. Turned out pretty good in my opinion, and I am very pleased. I just added the back story of the fabric I used. It was much easier than I thought it would be.

I can't believe this pattern is being considered new. This rug from fabric strips using batting has been around for decades. My grandmother use to make them exactly the way this new pattern instructs. She used a pattern from the Workshop Basket magazine she use to get. In fact the fabric batting strips are how I make tote straps before this pattern ever came out.

Like the old saying goes “Everything old is new again”. To me, it’s fun to see these crafts resurface again (with a big price tag, of course)

Now if I could just get the hang of making a toothbrush rug. Have pattern and toothbrush - instructions just are not clear to me.

I love the look of jelly roll rugs, but how well do they hold to regular usages? I think it might be fun to make one.

Thanks Onebyone I searched on the internet but now I am confused. I can't see a difference between Toothbrush, Rag, Jelly roll and another one I have already forgotten the name of. They look the same to me. Are they?
