The coupons are often usable on solids, or the homespun plaids, which aren't so often on sale. You can rarely use them on the calicos. They're good for the holiday fabrics, IF you can get to them right away before they go on sale! (Sorry, it's already too late for the spring holidays, you had to get to those before Christmas to use the coupons.)

It may be the case that an individual JoAnn's will make an exception to the policy that you can't use the coupon on sale items (using the percent off the regular price)... but it hasn't been that way in my area for several years now.

I miss JoAnns. The nearest one to me now is 128 miles, in Tulsa.

Yes, I have done that many times... :)
The register at our JoAnns is set up to NOT accept coupons on items already on sale.

Must be by store, cause I wanted a quilting magazine one time and it was on sale for 10% off. They would not take my coupon
bc is was already on sale.
My store is the same way. They won't touch my coupon if the item is already on sale. :P

I have a suggestion. If you join the ASG(American Sewing Guild), it costs you $40. The benefits are worth 100 X that...BUT in addition, you get a card that gives you 10% off at joann's. It doesnt apply to coupon merchandise, however, it does on sale merchandise. SOOOO if something is on sale for 40% you get an extra 10....if it is on clearance, even better. I find that I like it better if things are on sale, because with the extra 10% off it is better than a coupon. MANY of the quilt shops in the US will give you 10% off when you show your ASG card. ALSO, on the members website, there are always offers of discounts from online or local stores to ASG members when you show your card.

ASG is committed to educating sewers and also does many, many charity projects. You never have to participate in anything you dont want to. They have speakers during the year and it is really educational. Our chapter has a picnic in the summer, Christmas Party, and Spring anniversary party. I love it. THE BEST PART I saved until last, the members are just like the people on this board, willing to help, friendly and good friends.

$40 may seem like a lot...and it is...but I consider it better than any amount of coupons ...you will meet new friends and find it very fullfilling :)

I didnt see this new ad but usually the good quality quilting tools are not on sale when I go in so that is what I pick up, that or good batting which you can use those things online for. I never "need" anything when I can get it cheap so they are not bad for that. I rarely buy my fabric there just tools and batting.

No - I think that they do that on purpose. Sorry.

I do the same thing....sometimes everything I want/need is on sale, sometimes all my coupons work to my advantage. I always get 10% off anyway with my ASG (?) card.

Last time I bought at Joanns i had a problem with their buy one get one free sewing notions. That was a nightmare. I actually thought that if I bought in two's that I would get a "true" buy one get one free. But actually you buy the higher priced item and get lower priced item free. So basically after I checked out and realized what had happened, I returned everything and bought my BOGO items in seperate transactions to get a true Buy one get one free.

And that same day I used my 50% off for a Sidewinder, which was not on sale, so the coupon worked. And I use the 40% and 50% off coupons on rotary blades, mats, batting and sometimes books. Just depends on the ad that month.

No Connie you aren't alone in your frustration w/ the coupons...I haven't ordered anything online from Joanne or to many other places in a while for the very reasons you expressed. My other frustration w/ on line ordering is the stupid shipping and handling, sometimes its 10.00 or more and if i am not ordering alot its half of my purchase amt. Ya its great some places offer free shipping if you order 50.00 or more but I can't always spend that.
gosh thanks...now I know I am not alone in my frustrations.
