I was with a group of quilters talking about fabric when one of the group shows us a 10 year old quilt that is all faded and says it's because she used Joann fabric rather than quilt shop fabric.

Since I've only been quilting for a year, none of my quilts show any real fading, but they've only been washed once or twice.

To those of you who do have quilts made of Joann fabric that are 10+ years old, do you notice any additional fading or wear when compared to quilt shop fabric?

No. I have quilts well over 10 years old that recieve constant use made with joanns and/or WM fabric. None show any wear or fading.

we get questions like this very often. unfortunately ... we end up with page after page of argument because everybody has an opinion that they are convinced is based on fact. :lol:

it is true that different fabrics will perform differently over time. some will fade, some will wear out, some will not. many will swear on a stack that it has everything to do with where you buy it. i'm not convinced that's a reliable determinant.

whether or not a quilt fades is primarily determined by how it is displayed, stored, laundered and/or otherwise cared for.
