The fabric department manager at my WalMart told me that the WM corporation purchased Joann's Fabrics. Maybe that explains why they have downsized and eliminated some of the WM fabric departments. Joann's prices are much higher down here than WM's - sometimes $4-6 more per yard.

    Gads - what next!

That would explain a lot, wouldn't it?

I can't find anything on Google about Walmart purchasing Joann's. I think that is may be a rumor.

I have noticed my local Joanns has cut down on fabric and especially quilting supplies. They only sell packaged batting now. They have more arts and craft than ever before.

I sure hope this isn't true that Walmart purchased Joann's, because the way they run their store here is not how Joann's should be and they will most likely bring in cheaper material, not a good thing. I am going to ask when I go to Joann's.

Ruth no more bolts of warm and natural in Queensbury? I was in quickly today for some flannel for my denim rag but didn't make it to the back of the store. That's a huge disappointment, I usually wait for a good coupon and buy enough for a few projects.

I hope this is just a wild rumor. I have stopped shopping at WalMart since they dropped their fabric department, and if JoAnn's starts to cut down on their fabrics too, I'll be beside myself. There are several JoAnn's just minutes from my house, and each one lately has cleaned up their act -- their merchandise is neatly arranged, books are nicely shelved, floors have been decluttered. They look like they got rid of half their inventory, although they all say they just straightened up due to orders from management. Even the personnel are friendlier. Doesn't sound like a WalMart imprint, does it?

My JoAnne's still has batting and muslin on the bolts. I sure hope they don't stop selling either one. I ran in last night to buy some thread and left with 8 yards of fabric -- and NO thread lol. Guess I have to go back again today.

I'm hoping the department manager was incorrect. She said it was announced on a morning show on television, but couldn't remember which one. She didn't say whether they would be moving the fabric that WM usually gets to Joann's or any other details, but she was sure disgusted.
