I had planned on buying the Brother 1500 because I like the other ones I have. Also the price was better. I ended up with the juki 2000 after talking to my DDs that sew on industrial jukis.Although I'm sure I would have loved the Brother as well, I have no regrets, it is a wonderful machine.

I've had my Juki 2010Q for quite a while and absolutely love it. In fact, I just bought a Gidget II table so that I could sew with the machine dropped in (as opposed to on top of a table), and I love it even more! As someone said above, it's not fussy about thread and runs like a workhorse; not one problem, ever.

If you're concerned about price, this is what I did. I'm in RI and bought from a dealer in California. It was a "show model" that had been displayed (and maybe tried out) at a quilting event. I got an excellent discount on the machine, and when it arrived, you wouldn't have even known it was ever unboxed, it looked absolutely new. (Hey, maybe they just brought it to the show and didn't take it out of the box... I just thought of that.) Anyway, no shipping cost and a great price got me to finally buy this machine, and I've never regretted that decision.

I wonder what he'd been smoking. I own the Brother 1500 and it has metal parts.

I was amused at one person's statement referring to her sewing machine as "she" and in the same sentence as "workhorse". Not criticizing, just amused. And I understand both comments!

I have the Juki 2010q and also the Juki F600, (which does all stitches). I love both of them.
I use the 2010 mostly for FMQ and walking foot quilting because of the larger throat space.
I would not trade either one of them for anything. I have owned Brother, Babylock, (which
was a great sewing, embroidery machine), but since owning the Juki, I wouldn't think of
buying anything else. When owners say they are workhorses, they are not kidding. I bought
both of mine online because there was no dealers close by and don't regret it for a minute.
    Good luck with your choice.

I was thinking the same thing. I've had my Brother 1500 apart several times, all the parts are metal.

I have sewed on a Juki but I love my Brother 1500. I think you will be happy with either. One word of caution. Do not keep a spool of thread on the extra spool pin. The end will get caught in the wheel. I still have a few wraps around mine. I gave up trying to get it all undone. Sews just fine. There is a good group of Brother 1500 users on Yahoo groups. I learned that the three hole needle bar at the top of the machine is for specialty thread, not regular sewing thread. I use the first hole on the right of bar as a guide only. Leave the other two empty. This way the auto thread cutter doesn't unthread the needle.

I really appreciate this topic since I have thought about buying one of these 2 machines. How much do they differ in price? Do they cost less somewhere online?

I got my Brother 1500 used with a New Joy frame for $400. Despite the fact that I have several "backups", if it ever died or had a serious malfunction, I would not hesitate to purchase the same machine again. I think the average retail price for a new one is about $900, although some places occasionally run sales and you can find them as low as $599. You can also let your dealer know you'd like a used one, and a good dealer will work with you.

I've been looking at prices and the lowest I've found for a new machine is thru Amazon.com. Plus many sellers offer free shipping and no tax!!

Hi Elizabeth — I see you own (and love) a Juki F600. Do you use your for FMQing? And if so, what foot do you use? The reason I ask is that I bought the Juki F600 before I started doing quilting. Usually, I have it set up for piecing and I use the Brother 1500S for FMQing. Or I should say I'm starting to learn and do FMQing. But — probably because I'm inexperienced — I'm having trouble getting my stitches to come out the same length. Other than that, there are no problems — not with thread or needle breakage, for example. I was thinking of seeing if the Juki F600 might be better. I've heard that for a Juki, the 2010 or 98Q (or something like that) are the best. I'm curious about your insights. TIA. Joanne (aka JDpenelope—Penelope was our cat. RIP.)
