I, too, keep a list on my computer - and note whether it is started, supplies bought, or just an idea for the future.
In general, I have at least two crochet projects for the hands, one quilt ready to quilt/bind, one quilt half-done, and one more being cut. That way, no matter which technique I feel up to tackling, there is something waiting for me.

First I started with basics, and now have migrated to paper peacing. I love it. I had to teach my self how to do the work, but once I past the trial and error part, I still love it. I will still make the other type, but maybe 1 or 2 at a time is enough for me. I love the paper peice on tissue paper so much better than patern paper. I was looking for something that caught my attention, and I use EQ6 so I printed some patterns then traced them to tissue paper, and went to town. Hopefully this one will be done in a couple of weeks, and off to my sisters for quilting. How long does everyone spend making the quilt top? 30-60-90 day or a year?

Well this one isn't hard for me, I generally only do one major project at a time. I have been known to start smaller projects once I send what I have been working on off to be sandwiched/quilted such as table toppers or place mats etc. One it returns and I am binding it then I start to think about the next project. I just don't have the room to have too much out at one time.

I do whatever catches my eye or interest at any given moment. When I start to feel like there's too much going on, I take those projects that are closest to completion and do those first, to knock things off my list. I make a lot of gifts, but avoid taking commissions or committing myself to gifts for particular holidays. That way, even though I'm making a birthday present, I'm not committed to which birthday a person gets the gift.

I just finished a really difficult quilt. Dropped it off at the long-arm-quilt-lady's-house yesterday. Now what to do next! Well, it can't be too difficult, because my brain has not recovered from the last project yet! Maybe a small wall hanging, or table topper for Halloween. The LQS block of the month doesn't start until October. Maybe I'll take a vacation for a few weeks to catch my breath. I finished five quilts this summer--all Christmas presents. I might do a few smaller items for Christmas as well.
I try not to make quilting a "half-to" project but rather a "want-to" thing. So I will pick my next project carefully, so that it is still fun and no too much like work.
In Fons and Porter, I saw a Halloween Checker Board game that looked like fun. I might give that a try.

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one to have more than one project going at any given time. I have 3 quilts that need quilting (waiting for my quilting frame from Bernina). About 5 wall hangings that need quilting. Making hot pads for Christmas, doing two BOM's and last but not least making a purse. Gee, then I wonder why my husband says my sewing room is a mess!! He makes wood model airplanes and every thing is always nice and neat in his room. I tell him it's because he has so many small parts that he has to keep track of.

I generally have several projects going at once. So whatever my mood I usually go for, unless I have a dead line. I recently finished a 16 block(12" sq.each) Cinco de Mayo from "Karen K Stone Quilts Book" that took me I believe almost 4 years to complete. This was a very tense project and I could not work on it for long periods of time. It was my first all complete paper pieced 48 X48 wall hanging. Once it was finished it was so energizing that I was able to finish up two small quilts in a couple days. There is this other project now hanging over my head that I started several years ago--it is a sampler quilt that I did all by hand piecing. It has one of those odd shaped blocks (it looks latticed)and as I was laying it out to work on, I knocked over the TV tray with the pieces laid out. It so overwhelmed me (the mess) that I put it all back in the tub--and I haven't touched it since. Since I have finished several projects in a very short time I am now ready to tackle this one. I do plan to have it hand quilted by Amish ladies in Iowa. I try to keep a list going of my projects and it is such a sense of accomplishment when I can actually cross them off the list. But on the other hand I just bought some fabric for another project that I had not really planned. It is the paper doll fabric which I will make for my granddaughters.

finish doing FMQ on this tablerunner ( I ran out of thread) I have fabrics all laid out for a new tablerunner for a friend. Ok, so I had to go to Wal Mart today so I just HAD to surf through the fabric dept. Now I'm in the mood to make a pr. of pillow cases. That's because I saw a cpl. of fabrics I just had to do something with. The new runner will have to wait for now.
I think we're all a little pathetic. LOL
