I don't pin often & I never sew over a pin. If I have something that needs to be held in place like intersecting seams I use "Wonder Tape" by Collins. It is amazing stuff. It is 1/4in doublesided sticky tape, it never gums up the machine or neeedle, it washes out so I don't have to take it out and it holds very very well. I find myself using it often for many things. I especially love it for doing bindings. It holds the back side of my binding evenly in place. I get it for about $4 for 10 yards and when I only use tiny little 1/4 inch dots it lasts a long time.

Personally, I don't like to pin. I find I have very good luck with Elmer's Glue or a basting glue/stick that's available on the market these days.

How does that work? I saw a tut on gluing - but it was on the bottle and tip rather than on the application with fabric. Do you let the glue dry before stitching? Do you glue on the "outside" of the seam (right sides together with glue on the area that shows on the quilt) or on the "inside" of the seam (the part from the seam in the 1/4" part)?

Usually not until pieces are 5 inches or longer.

I pin everything. I've been quilting for about a year. I wasn't pinning strips but I find pinning them helps me sew slower and keep the 1/4" seam.

I never pin unless it's absolutely necessary. Otherwise I butt seams together and "finger pin" everything.
