I very seldom ever pin anything. I'm thankful I have Accufeed on my Janome!

If I am sewing long pieces together, I pin them. Otherwise, I do not. Maybe I should pin all the time and my blocks will come out better. ;)

It depends on the pattern. Many do not require pinning. Some will get up and run if you don't pin. Mostly I stay away from those.

I pin all nesting seams - otherwise, only with long strips

Only when seams MUST match. Remember a thread here that advised pinning at those seams, checking accuracy, then re-doing if necessary or continuing on. One of the better tips I've gotten.

If your seams match up where you have the seam allowance on the bottom piece pointing the opposite way as the seam allowance on the top piece, that alone holds the seam in line without a pin, while sewing.
