Default just finished a Judy Niemeyer pattern class with Jackie Kunkel!

Woohoo! Took a Judy Niemeyer piecing class today at the KC Regional Quilt Fest with Jackie Kunkel. Terrific teacher! She did a great job of explaining and demoing the techniques for this class. I actually managed to finish one whole block! LOL! I've never been a good paper piecer but the techniques are great--the points are designed NOT to go to the seams so being "off" isn't a disaster. Also, the templates for cutting keep you from "shorting" your pieces and a lot of waste. And basically, then technique is set up so that you chain piece (although we did not due to time constraints).

The technique used a glue pen (which I hadn't been able to get before the class so Jackie loaned me one--buying one tomorrow at the KCRQF!) to hold seams while sewing so no distortion from pins. I did end up with a tiny pleat when sewing the curved seams but Jackie explained it was an easy fix and showed me how.

Definitely think this is a pattern I'll work best on at home as I can spread out and organize best--but doubt it will get done quickly! Highly recommend her as a teacher!

I very much like the way JN trains teachers in the workshops she holds. They all seem to handle the subject matter well. I took one at my local guild. It was great. I did the leaves and made placemats with them. I made them rounded on one side to fit our round table and we really enjoy them. I recommend her classes/teachers highly.

congrats. I took a Judy class from a certified instructor and finished half of it. we were meeting weekly after until she had "the nerve" to move away without me being finished! Anyway, I will find a way to finish it. It is an interesting process.
