Yeah, me too. Who'd thunk it. This is one column that I'll probably try to save--my quilting buddies and I were discussing this very subject last week when one of them stuck a pin halfway through her finger loading a quilt on my longarm roller. Good to know, thanks and Merry Christmas to all of you.

Spit to remove blood is a very good idea as the fabric will rot if the blood is not removed, and spit is so plentiful.

I'm spitless! LOL! My nursing background teaches me to keep my hands away from my face, mouth and nose, to prevent colds spreading, and it's a habit I can't break.

I can't stand to lick my fingers. When I watch football quarterbacks lick their fingers every time before they throw the ball or handle it, I go yuck. Everyone on that and the other team has handled the ball. Whew! Sometimes, women who are cutting a pie or cake lick their fingers or the knife while cutting. I won't eat it after I see it.LOL Don't want to taste anyone else's DNA.ha.

It truly grosses me out, to see someone lick fingers, before turning a page. Nasty, IMO!

Some may think it's gross, however, your own saliva will take blood drips out of your quilt. I don't know about you, but I stab myself several times while making a quilt, just saying.

[QUOTE=tropit;6467352]A few days ago there was a thread in the forum that mentioned using saliva to remove a blood stain. Now, it's got me thinking on how often I use spit when I'm quilting. I Know...GROSS! But I use it when I'm threading a needle, finger pressing a binding, smoothing my thread when hand sewing, etc. I have to say, spit comes in pretty handy sometimes. What do you use spit for?

Washing the quilt after finishing it should take care of germs. I just was reminded about the "quilters knot" - try doing it that way as there's no spit involved.

    But it is true.

Just don't tell my Mom if she knew I even thought about spitting. She would smack me.

I don't think that I use my saliva that much. I don't use it to thread a needle, and as for blood, I keep peroxide handy. This is an interesting thread however!

I do that too along with removing one's own blood. Your spit will not be as effective on other people's blood.
